What is social impact investing?

Social impact investing, or impact investing, means investing capital to generate social impact in a way that also provides monetary returns. These returns may vary from the initial principal amount upward (or potentially downward), depending on the nature of the investment. Impact investors actively attempt to solve social or environmental problems through the investment’s mode of production and/or directly through the product or service. The goal is to create positive, measurable social and environmental impact alongside a financial return.
